This Nichiren temple runs along the eastern side of Ogura pond.
The Main Hall once stood on the grounds of Fushimi Castle. Its two-story pagoda dating from 1620 is an Important Cultural Property.
There is a wonderful view of Sagano and Arashiyama from the upper garden and many places to sit and enjoy it.
On the other side of the pond, visit Nonomi-ya Shrine. This is where, in ancient times, this shrine prepared princesses for their duties as vestal virgins at the Grand Shrine of Ise.
This shrine is mentioned in the Tale of Genji and provides the setting for the Noh play Nonomi-ya.
